As an Austrian energy supplier, LINZ STROM GAS W Å RME GmbH operates a total of seven power plants. The company optimizes the equipment of the power plants and converts the main energy gases, biomass, oil (reserve fuel), residues, and sewage sludge into energy through electricity and regional heating, providing power to local businesses and households. While ensuring stable and reliable electricity supply, it achieves efficient and sustainable operation of the power plants.

As time goes on, three 250kW air-cooled frequency converters used to control intermediate pumps in one of the Linz Strom power plants are aging, and their reliable service life is about to end. It is necessary to replace the frequency converters to ensure the normal operation of the power plant.

However, in order to ensure stable operation of the power plant during equipment replacement, Linz Strom proposed the following requirements:

The new frequency converter must be suitable for the space left after the removal of old equipment, and effective harmonic suppression is also required to protect the pump.

The entire replacement process, including the removal of the old frequency converter, must be completed within two days.

03 A maintenance agreement needs to be signed to ensure the long-term continuous and reliable operation of the equipment.

Based on a long-term partnership with Danfoss for over 20 years, Linz Strom highly recognizes the excellent performance, reliability, and 24-hour service support of Danfoss products. Therefore, after evaluating multiple suppliers, Linz Strom ultimately entrusted the project to Danfoss Transmission and its authorized system builder.

In this project, VACON ® The NXP Air Cooled frequency converter has been selected as a replacement due to its compact structure, high efficiency, and excellent reliability. Meanwhile, with the help of DrivePro ® Retrofit service to simplify the replacement process. In addition, to protect the pump motor that has not been replaced, the new frequency converter is also equipped with a common mode magnetic core kit, dU/dt filter, and RFI filter.

In just two days, Danfoss and Sprecher Automation completed the delivery of new frequency converters, removal of old equipment, installation and replacement of new equipment, and other related electrical operations, reducing the interference caused by equipment replacement on operations.
